"A moveable, temporary ‘Pop-Up’ event and activity in a specific location where different constituents of the university and the external community can come together to create ideas, share resources and knowledge, build new ventures and bring life to their ideas."

Originally an actual physical space based in SkySong, the Hackspace concept has now evolved into a set of "Pop-Up" activities that the ASU Venture Catalyst will be developing and delivering to the various ASU campuses and other locations.

We believe strongly in bringing innovation and entrepreneurship to the masses and the Hackspace Pop-Up concept is a great way to create and promote a unique environment that engages people.

The "Pop-Up" concept is a new innovation that has been sweeping the world, where activities take place temporarily in a particular space. It has been very prevalent in the world of retail but is now starting to move beyond that. Now ASU Venture Catalyst will bring that concept to the areas of Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship to a wide variety of locations.

In some cases these Hackspace Pop-Up events will be run in partnership with external organizations to ensure that the best of class in new thinking and innovation can be delivered to faculty, students and other members of Phoenix entrepreneurship and creative classes.

Popup Hackspace @ The Night Gallery

What: A popup hack night with free pizza, red bull, music, networking, and fun opportunities to innovate, create, and collaborate. Come see what the Phoenix-metro area has to offer innovators of all ages. The event will include burlesque dancers, improv comedy performances, and presentations by Gangplank and ASU’s Venture Catalyst. Stop by for food, music, and hanging out.

When: Saturday, January 7, 2012; 3:00 pm until 10:00 pm

Where: The ASU Night Gallery at Tempe Marketplace

Who: Anyone with a pulse is invited!

Why: To raise the community’s awareness about the ways creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship are being supported at Gangplank and ASU.

Open Beta Session Details:
