1. What does the Venture Catalyst at ASU provide?

The Venture Catalyst at ASU provides a suite of venture acceleration services that are designed to help ventures, in all stages of development, grow and succeed. The Catalyst has the ability to provide unique growth opportunities as a result of its highly-qualified professional staff, access to resources within the ASU community, and its wide variety of venture acceleration services. These services include entrepreneurial education, connections to mentors, capital formation, intellectual property assistance, access to faculty researchers, student interns and employee workforce and more.

2. Does the Venture Catalyst at ASU have membership requirements?

No. The Venture Catalyst is not membership-based. The Venture Catalyst services are designed for ASU students, faculty and companies that seek to be closely aligned with the university.

Fill out the venture assessment form and a team of the Catalyst professionals will evaluate your venture and provide a customized roadmap for you.

4. What does the venture roadmap provide me with?

The customized roadmap includes an assessment of where the Venture Catalyst at ASU team sees your company at the present time, where you told the Catalyst team you wanted to go, and how the Catalyst team believes that they can help you reach your goals.

5. Do I have to go through the Venture Catalyst at ASU assessment process in order to sign up for individual workshops or educational opportunities?

No. Having your venture assessed by the Venture Catalyst at ASU team is not a requirement for registering for individual workshops or taking advantage of the Catalyst's free services.

6. How much do the Venture Catalyst at ASU services cost?

The Venture Catalyst has a range of services for your venture's needs – some are even free. The venture assessment form is $50 to fill out. ASU students and faculty members receive a discount. This covers the cost of the Venture Catalyst at ASU professionals evaluating your business, working with you to identify what services would best fit your venture's needs, and drafting your custom venture assessment roadmap. Pricing varies on additional services recommended in the venture assessment roadmap. Pricing also varies for events administered by the Venture Catalyst at ASU, such as workshops and conferences, which are, generally, open to all entrepreneurs.

In an effort to better serve the entrepreneurial community, ASU has taken all of the resources that were previously part of the Technopolis program, along with many other additional services provided by AzTE and SkySong, and incorporated them into the Venture Catalyst at ASU.

No, the Catalyst is not an incubator. While office space at SkySong, the Venture Catalyst's headquarters, may be a recommended course of action for particular companies, involvement in the Catalyst does not necessarily mean obtaining space at the facility.

11. Who runs the Venture Catalyst at ASU?

The Catalyst is jointly run by the Office of the Senior Vice President of Knowledge Enterprise Development (OKED) and Arizona Technology Enterprises (AzTE). OKED helps make discovery possible. They seek research funding, support faculty researchers, nurture partnerships with external partners, promote innovation and entrepreneurship, and share what they learn with the community and the world. Arizona Technology Enterprises (AzTE) was established as an Arizona Limited Liability company with the ASU Foundation as its sole member. Pursuant to agreements with Arizona State University, AzTE operates as the exclusive intellectual property management and technology transfer organization for ASU. The Catalyst is headquartered at SkySong.

14. What is AzTE?

Arizona Technology Enterprises (AzTE) is a non-profit organization established under the corporate umbrella of the ASU Foundation with the support of Arizona State University. Comprised of industry and university veterans with substantial experience in technology evaluation, licensing and commercialization, venture development, and intellectual property, AzTE operates as the exclusive technology commercialization arm of ASU. The organization is the legal vehicle through which ASU employees and affiliates comply with their obligations regarding intellectual property under policies promulgated by the Arizona Board of Regents.

SkySong is an innovation center designed to help companies grow by providing business services and programs offered or facilitated by Arizona State University.
